_ , AUCKLAND, May 26. Burglars broke into a house in Parnell and stole £I2OO worth of jewellery. The residence visited was that of Mr John Reece, and the occupants were away at the time. A daring feature of the burglary uas tne fact that the house is only a stone's tnrow from the police stat on. FEILDiNG, May 26. Messrs Dalgety and Co.’s premises were burglariously entered last night and a safe taken away. This morning it was found near the railway line about hall a mile Irom the premises. It was unopened. The contents are valued at over £soo—mostly in cheques. , STRATFORD, -May 24. A very largely attended meeting of delegates from the majority of the* factories m laranaki to-day discussed the Dairy Produce Control Bill. A resolution was carried on the voices “that this conference of dairy factories supports the efforts of the council in endeavouring to get the Rill through Parliament. ’’ The discussion occupied the whole day. May 26. A twelve-roomed house on the Opunake road, owned and occupied by Mr F. Ran ford, was totally destroyed by lire this afternoon. The house was insured for £2OOO in the South British Insurance Coffipany. and the furniture was also insured for £SOO with the Royal and Ocean Insur ance Company ‘ WELLINGTON. May 24. Parliament will be asked by the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants to constitute a board composed of representatives of the men and the department, with an outside chairman, to adjudicate on matters of dispute between the men and the management. There is stated to be dissatisfaction in the service over the method of settling disputes, and the men want a board similar to the Wages Boards which acted at the time of the strike in 1920, and again the following year. These boards, the men consider, did good work and will remove discontent. The Miners’ Dominion Conference, to be held on July 4, will have che following issues placed before it:—(1) The federation as mvw constituted; (2) one union for the dominion; (3) one union for each district affiliated to the national office; or (4) one federation for each district, as suggested by t.be recent meeting of miners at Reefton. The notice convening the meeting attacks the coal owners and urges the necessity for breaking away from the Arbitration court and establishing the right of discussion on their own wages and working conditions. It suggests that they cannot be too eager to end the court’s rule in face of the treatment served out to the workers of New Zealand during (he last 18 months. MASTERTON, May 24. James Nolan, with four aliases, appeared to-day on four charges of theft at Lansdoivne on May 16 The accused pleaded guilty. In a voluntary statement he said he had escaped from Waikeria Prison camp. He admitted the four charges and also of breaking and entering Sir Francis Bell’s house in Lowry Bay, Wellington, on May 15. The accused was committed to the Wellington Supreme Court for sentence. CHRISTCHURCH, May 24. The Masonic Hall was hopelessly inadequate for the accommodation of the crowds of ladies who wished to attend a meeting of the Mothers’ Union, held in connection with the Church Qongress this afternoon. The speakers at the gathering were Mrs Bickersteth, the Bishop of Dornakal. and the Bishop of Willochra. Mrs W. G. Roberts, w'ho presided, said the day was a red letter day in the history of the union. ’There were present members and patrons of the union from many parts of the world.
