GIRLS’ FRIENDLY SOCIETY HOSTEL

FORMALLY OPENED. The Girls’ Friendly Society's hostel in Lirtlebourne was formally opened on Saturday afternoon in the presence of a large assemblage, mostly ladies. The religion® portion of the ceremony was conducted by Bishop Richards, who visited the different rooms and dedicated them. Thereafter those present assembled in one of the more commodious apartments, where tho Bishop conducted a brief service, in the course of which he declared the house now dedicated to the glory of God and a hostel for girls in the city of Dunedin. The Mayor (Mr 11. L. Tapley) said ho could assure them that it gave him genuine pleasure to be present that afternoon to take part, in the service of dedication. They all recognised the necessity for these hostels being provided for citie3. Mr F. H. King, chairman of committee, said that it was through the representations of Mrs Gibb that this had come about. Canon Xevill said that although this was an Anglican hostel it was open to girls of every form of faith. It was for all girls. This concluded the formal opening, and afternoon tea was partaken of. Thanks are duo to the Rev. G. E. Moreton, who secured the building on liberal terms and made it possible for the Church to commence this all-important “community service”; also to Mr A. A. Finch, the hon. solicitor, v ho kindly attended to the legal side cf tho business.
