THE EXHIBITION SITE.

CALEDONIAN GROUND PROPOSED. A special meeting "of the Caledonian Society was held last week to consider a proposal to offer to the Provisional Exhibition Committee the us© of the Caledonian Grounds as a site for the exhibition proposed for Dunedin in 1925. The proposal, which included a scheme for the erection of permanent buildings on the ground, was carried. TTore was an attendance of about 60 members over whom the president (Mr H. H. S. White) presided. Ihe Chairman explained that the directors eas y access to the city, and the directors considered that the society would be warranted in offering its ground in order to make the exhibition a greater success than it would be if it were held on some other ground. Mr \\. E. C. Reid submitted a plan of the proposed layout of the grounds, and suggested buildings drawn by Mr W. 11. Dunning. The projjosal was that the grounds should be handed over to the city under certain conditions and controlled by trustees, the directors being empowered to offer the grounds to the Exhibition Provisional Committee as an exhibition site. Ihe plan provided for the grounds being surrounded by permanent buildings, the upper • storey of the frontage to the Bay road to be a huge concert hall to seat 4000 or 5000 people. There would be other permanent buildings, such as art galleries. Necessary grandstand accommodation overlooking the playing area could be provided on tlie top cf those buildings. The Chairman said that in order that the matter might oe open for discussion he would move —‘‘That this meeting resolve that the report be adopted and that the directors of the society be empowered to otter the society’s grounds to the provisional Exhibition Committee as the site for the Exhibition, and that, in the event of the offer being accepted, the directors be further empowered to take (lie necessary steps to give legal effect to the proposal contained in the legal sub-committee’s report. After an animated discussion, the motion v.as then put and carried without dissent. The meeting closed with voles of thanks to all those who had assisted in furthering the proposal.
