THE MEAT TRADE.
LONDON, January 19. The Farmers’ Union is pressing for a modificaton of the practice of using exclusively frozen meat for the army. The Army Council points out that the substitution "of home-grown meat on onlv two days a week would cost an extra £250,000 a year. The Daily Chronicle understands that, n.,ertheless, the Government intends to alter the conditions and invite tenders for fresh as well as frozen meat. January 20. An important scheme has been projected for establishing extensive cold stores at Swansea, in order to cope with the colonial meat trade. The Banffshire's meat will he discharged there next week, and supplied from there to Brisb I and Cardiff.
