TUAPEKA SHOW

He annual show held by the Tuapeka 'Agricultural Society affords a splendid opportunity for the residents of Lawrence and the pufrounding districts to spend a pleasant time on Boxing Day. The twenty-fifth show, which was held on rue recreation reserve at Lawrence on the 26th, could scarcely have been attended by more perfect conditions in the way of weather. From early morning the sun shone brightly, but there was a sufficiently strong breeze toipre\ent the heat from being oppressive. The conditions were such as to tempt v people o spend the day in the fresh air, and naturally a large number found their way to the show ground, where they were interested spectators of the judging at various competitions that were held during the day. The entries showed a slight falling oft as compared with those in 1921, the decreases being in the cattle and draught horse sections. Tlie entries of cattle last year numbered 43, but this year they totalled only 20, and the number of draught horses forward dropped from 36 in 1921 to 23 yesterday. The entries of light horses numbered 37 yesterday as compared with 29 a year ago. The other sections —sheep, ponies, and home industries —attracted practically the - a&me number of entries as they did in 1921. The Shorthorn cattle classes attracted very few entries, there being only about three exhibitors. The cattle shown were a very fair lot, but in the opinion of the judge there was nothing of outstanding merit about them. Avrshires were very poorly represented in numbers, only -one exhibit ooming forward. r I he classes for Jerseys met with rather better support, and some good animals were shown, especially the champion in the female section. The cross breds were the largest section in point of number, and they made a very lair display, the champion cow being a very nice type of animal. _ There were fairly good entries in some of the draught horse sections, and taken all round the quality was up to. the usual standard. From a numerical point of view the sheep formed one of the strongest sections in the ehow. In most of the classes there were good entries, and in several cages there was keen competition, some very nice animals being exhibited. The home industries classes were also well patronised, and the competitors put forward some remarkably fine specimens of their art in the way of cooking. The office-bearers of the society worked hard to ensure the success of the gathering, and as a result of the excellent arrangements made everything went smoothly from gtart to finish. The arrangements for supptying lunch and afternoon tea were capably undertaken by a committee of ladies associated with the society. The following is the prize list;— CATTLE. Judge: Mr R. J.
