MEMORIAL TABLET UNVEILED
THE REV. ALEX. WHYTE. A large congregation assembled on Sunday, 25th ult., in the Presbyterian Church, Port Chalmers, to witness the unveiling of a tablet in memory of the late minister, the Rev. Alex. Whyte. The service was conducted by the Rev. W. Gray Dixon, M.A., assisted by the present minister, the Rev. J. M. Simpson, 15. A. The ceremony of unveiling was performed bv Mrs John Mill, one of tho oldest, members of the congregation. Mr Whyte’s favourite, hymns and psalms wore sung during- the service, and the choir gave n beautiful rendering of the anthem “Crossing the Bar,” Mrs R. Love presding at the organ. A solemn find impressive so vice was brought to a close by the organist playing the “Dead March" in “Saul.” Tlie tablet is a marble one. placed on the north wall of the church, and bears the following inscription : —“Erected by the congregation in loving meinoi . < f the Rev. Alex. Whyte. M.A., 8.D.. I’-.Sc.. F.L.S., minister of this church Rom February i, 1910. till his deaih on November 8, 1919. A Christian gentleman, a r:pe scholar, an able teacher, a wise counsellor, a true friend, and a loving pastor. He was faithful even unto death. Jesus said unto him: ‘Feed my lambs.’ ”
