SOUTHLAND FARMER’S DEATH.
(From Cite Own Correspondent.) INVERCARGILL. September 20.
A man who in his clay was looked on as the most expert rough rider in the Southern Hemisphere met his death near Invercargill on Monday night. This was Mr Twenty-men Hodgson, who was riding to his home at Qteramika Road at the time of his death, which might not, however, prove to be altogether due io a fall, as he had been suffering- from heart trouble for some time. Air Hodgson was a native of Ashburton, and before corning to Southland, about 30 years ago, he held land at Seafieid. He took up land in this district. and up to the time of his death carried on horse dealing and farming. It is stated that so great was iiis skill in
horsemanship that he once held his own with the star of a “Buffalo Biff” show at Christchurch in a competition, which included rough-riding lassooing, arid picking objects from the giound when at full gallop. He took a keen interest in the art of developing horsemanship, and he was largely instrumental in instituting and maintaining buck-jumping competitions at the Southland A. and P. Shows some years ago. He is survived by a widow and grown-up family.
