At a special meeting of the Otago Womens Club it was resolved to raise the annual subscription from a guinea to a guinea and a-half. Mr John Dwyer, who recently retired on superannuation from the position of Superintendent of tlie Canterbury Police Force, was met by a representative gathering of citizens on the Bth and presented with an illuminated address and a cheque for £7OO and an oak bedroom suite for Airs Dwyer. Ensign it. Coombs, who has come to Dunedin as the Samaritan officer in connection with the Dilnedin division of the Salvation Army, and who has also been appointed by the Government as a probation officer, took up her duties on the Bth inst. In the evening the Ensign was accorded a hearty welcome at the barracks in Dowling street. The Executive of the New Zealand VVomen s Christian Temperance Union, at its conference, decided to establish its national headquarters in Wellington as a memorial to the late Mrs A. R. The date of the combined New Zealand Industries Exhibition, promoted by the Wellington industrial Association and the Wellington I fades and Labour Council, was indefinitely postponed. Major Lampden. in proposing a toast, said it was a scandal that a town like Dunedin had not yet erected a memorial to the fallen, whilst the smallest of the towns in Otago all possessed their own memorials He referred to the fact that the late Oolonoi Bauch op. the first commanding officer of the Otago Mounted Rifles, and Captain Bruce Hay, squadron commander, were both killed on Gallipoli.
