YACHTING.
THE SANDERS CUP. The residents c-f Stewart Island have determined to try for the Slanders Cup, and one of their number is in Dunedin just now negotiating for the purchase of a 14ft yacht. Boats of this -description are being- built also at Lyttelton and Sumner, and tlie next race for the Cup, which will probably take place in i.ago Harbour in February next, looks likely to attract competitors from five provinces. The race at Auckland in March last and tiro victory of the Dunedin boat Heather has stimulated the sport wonderfully.
