MURCHISON BANK ROBBERY
OYER £2OOO STOLEN. NELSON, February 23. Several police officers and detective® are investigating the Murchison bank robbery, so far without result. The toller (Wilford Engall) says he was bound and gagged about 2 or 3 o’clock on Tuesday morning, and about 7 o’clock, when he was able to free himself, he found the bank had been robbed. Two men were engaged _in the affair, and got- away after securing the teller’s keys, ransacking the safe, and taking over £2OOO. There are several rumours, but nothing to definitely fix upon. It is not yet clear how tho premises were forcec open or entered. The occurrence caused quite a sensation at Murchison, taking place when there were many visitors in the township attending the Chautauqua concerts. February 24. The Nelson police have received word with regard to the Murchison bank robberv that the stolen money (£2000) has been recovered. February 25. Other than the recovery of the stolen money, there are no further developments in the Murchison bank robbery. The money, which was found under a bridge in the vicinity of the township, was wrapped up in a brown paper parcel. No direct clue has been discovered as to how the stolen money was conveyed and deposited under the bridge.
