An interesting statement was made by a witness at the Magistrate’s Court, Auckland, last week during the hearing of a claim for damages in connection with a collision between a scow and fishing boat in the harbour (reports the Star). Iho claim included damages for loss of use of the fishing boat. Plaintiff, being asked the average earnings of his boat, said about £IOOO a year. Cross-examined, lie explained it was seldom he earned less than £lO per week clear of expenses, and in favourable seasons more than £2O. In illustration he mentioned that with two mates he got £l2 worth of fish in three hours off the Great Barrier recently.
