COMMERCIAL TRAVELLERS ASSOCIATION.
! The eighth annual conference of the United Commercial Travellers and Warehousemen’s Association of New Zealand was held in Dunedin last week, Mr D. M’Phcrson presiding. Ihe delegates were given a civic reception by the Mayor of Dunedin (Mr W. Begg). The annual report submitted to the conference stated that tiie year’s working had resulted in a loss of £27 Is 6d, a decided improvement on the previous year, it tvas resolved to adopt the accident insurance scheme by the general secretary to come into operation on June 1 of this year, provided 500 proposals are received. In view of accommodation suffering where no-licenco obtains, each branch is to asked to use its best endeavour to secure “Continuance.” r l he conference affirmed the desirability of establishing a commercial scholarship in connection with the Association. It was stated that at least £IO,OOO would bo reotiired for the purpose, and one delegate expressed the belief that it would nor be difficult for each centre to raise £SOOO. The matter will come up a „ a j n next year, when more information will be available. In connection with the attempt to secure exemption from service on juries by commercial travellers, the secretary was instructed to write to the Minister for Justice enclosing a copy of an association certificate suggesting that this could bo used to identify commercial travellers. It was decided to approach the : Prime Minister with a view to granting absentee voters’ permits to travellers absent in Australia It was decided to hold the next conference in Christchurch and the following office-bearers were elected: President, Mr H. IJ. W’oucliop _ (Christchurch) ; treasurer, Mr W r . F. Herrich ; awfiror, Mr 11. Bicknell. Ihe delegates vere entertained to dinner a,t the omo rooms by the retiring president, Mr 1). M'Pherson.
