The monthly meeting of the committee of the Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Society, held on Wednesday, was attended by Messrs Edgar C. Hazlett (president, in the chair), W. O. M’Kellar, R. A. Ewing, T. Scott, J. W. Biair, JJ. Andrew, James Begg, Janies Smith, W. Turnbull, D. Murray, James Maeandreiv, T. J. Gavvn, and E. F. Duthie. Apologies were received from Messrs H. M. Driver, H. C. Campbell, W. Moynihan, James Birtles, James Ross, G. Black, A. Johnson, and H. Price. Before commencing the business the Chairman moved that letters of sympathy be sent to Mr Andrew M’Farlane in regard to the death of his wife, and to Mr James Ross in the death of his brother (Mr David Ross). The Grounds and Finance Committees reported that Messrs J. S. Douglas and Co.’s tender for connecting the caretaker’s house, Tahuna Park, with the sewerage system had been accepted and the work w T as nearly completed, and on the motion of Mr Duthie, seconded by Mr R. A. Ewing, the report was approved. Accounts also amounting to £4lO Os 3d were passed for payment. The Managing Director of the New Zealand Aero Transport Company wrote asking permission for the use of Tahuna Park at the close of the Summer Show for making flights.—On the motion of Mr Scott, seconded by Mr Macandrew, it was resolved that the matter be left in the hands of the executive. The Secretary of the Licensed Victuallers’ Association wrote regretting inability to make a special donation to the funds of the society as was done last year, and intimating that it would be necessary to make a special canvass. On the motion of Mr R. A. Ewing, seconded by Mr T. Scott, it was resolved that a personal canvass of the hotels be made towards augmenting the society’s prize fund. The Hon. W. Nosworthy, Minister of Agriculture, wrote in reply io resolutions passed at a meeting of affiliated A. and P. societies of Otago with reference to work and recommendations of the Board of Agri-culture.—-Noted; the matter to be left : n the hands of Mr James Begg, the member for Otago on the Board of Agriculture. Letters were received from the Marlborough A. and P. Association, Blenheim, and the V.'airarapa A. and P. Association supporting the recommendations made by the affiliated A. and P. societies of Otago to the Minister of Agriculture.—Noted. The President pointed out that every effort was being made to have the events on the afternoon of the second day run off expeditiously, and invited discussion on the question.—After members had expressed their views, it was resolved, on the motion of Mr E. F. Duthie, seconded by Mr R. A. Ewing, that a conference of marshals and class stewards in the draught horse, hackney, and competition sections be held at an early date to endeavour to arrange suitable times for the events to be started. —The President also intimated to the meeting that the old totalisator house at the east end of the grand stand was being fitted up for the use of representatives of the St. John Ambulance Society, in case of accident. The following new members were proposed and duly elected: —Messrs Shale Bros. (Clarksville), Walter Beattie (Maungatua), L. H. Tilson (Port Mplynenx), W. G. Thomson (Waihao Downs), Chamberlain (Goodwood). John Richardson (Palmerston), J. P. Callaghan (Inch Valley). David Ross (Palmerston), M. Pryde, jun. (St. Leonards). R. A. Westcott (Dunedin), G. L. Copeland (Kuriwao, Clinton), and Peter Garden fWaiwera). The Secretary submitted a list of marshals and class stewards as revised by the executive, which was approved.—The Chairman suggested the names of several young men in business who would be willing to assist as class stewards if desired.—Approved. The Secretary also intimated that entries were already being received, and present indications pointed to a very successful show.
