SOLDIERS’ SETTLEMENT

AMENDED CONDITIONS OF TENURE. \\ ELLINGTON, January 21. The amended regulations gazetted" under The Discharged Soldiers’ Settlement Act include in it section 143 of “ The Land Act, 1908.” The section in question provides that no Crown lands held under any other tenure than freehold shall be capable of being sold for non-payment of rates by the lessee or licensee; that such non-payment shall be deemed a breach of the conditions, rendering the lease or license liable to forfeiture ; that the local body concerned maj apply to the I.and Board for redress; that if the rate remains unpaid 30 days after notice to pay is served by the board, it may declare the lease or license absolutely forfeited; and that unpaid rates may be deducted by the board from moneys paid by the incoming lessee or licensee for improvements.
