PROGRESS IN AVIATION.
(By Cable.) ( OTTAWA, August 18, . It is announced that the Canadian. Air Board will soon establish a transcontinental air route with express aeroplanes, providing a 50-hour service between Halifax and Vancouver, carrying passengers, mails, and light freight. Control stations will be established at intervals of 20 miles, with air ports at all the principal cities along the route. SYDNEY, August 22. Parer and M 'lntosh were forced to land, on Walsh Island owing to shortage of petrol. Parer and M'lntosh arrived, and were; escorted to the landing ground by five aeroplanes. MELBOURNE, August 19. Sir Ross Smith, Sir Keith Smith, and Captain Frank Hurley are proceeding to England to arrange details for a round*; the-world flight. The Postmaster-general is considering theestablishment of a regular aerial mail service between Perth and Broome. An aerial Derby race will be held, on Boxing Day, when at least 10 machines will compete over a 200-mile course, start-" ing from the Epsom racecourse.
