AUCKLAND TOPICS.

By TRIGGER. The programme issued by the Auckland Raging Club for- the. coming _ season is easily a record for the Dominion. The total amount of stake money .allotted, £61,050, shows tin increase of £11,600 on last year's total, the ohief items being t Auckland Cup 3000sovs, 'Racing Club Handicap 30i)09ovs, Great Northern Hurdles and Steeplechase*. 2COOsovs each, Mitchelson Cup, Railway Handicap, Easter Handicap, Autumn Handicap 14O0sovs each, Islington Plate, Newmarket Handicap, King George Handicap, and York Welter lOCOsovs each. With no race on the programme carrying a stake less than 4'oosovs, all classes have been well catered for, The performances of the Ellerslie-trairied division at the. National was disappointing, Kauri King and Oakleigh being the only ones to catch the judge's eye. Evidently ago is beginning to have its effects on Waimai. To go through the National meeting without picking Up_ any stake m,oney does not place him. in a favourable light. The Marion Spring meeting did not receive much attention from local owners, only 11 horses being nominated. When travelling is so / expensive, a one-day fixture does not offer much inducement.

Forward Lady and Bitholia will probably make the trip. Both are in good form. The former should make a- good showing in the Hack Hurdles.

Mill o' Gowrie and Rekanui figure in flat events at Marion. Both were good performers on the flat before, being put to hurdle racing. If Te Oro is taken to Morton he should keep the opposition busy in the leading event hi which he has been awarded 7.3. RAG! ft G IN NEW ZEALAND. CHRISTCHUROH TROTS. CHiUSTOHURCH, August IG.
