BOWLING.

(Br Jack.)

The annual meeting of the Balclutha Bowling Club was held last week, tho president, Mr W. Almond; presiding. The report showed that the season had been - a fairly satisfactory one, hut more enthusiasm is necessary among the members. The championship singles were again keenly contested, and some hard and close finishes were the result, the winner turning up in Mr W. H. Ahnond, with Mr W. Watson runner-up. The president's handicap singles were also keenly contested, being eventually Won by Mr Bert Davidson, with Mr R. Dunn runner-up. The vice-president's handicap was also a hard-fought contest, .being won by Mr W. Watson, who played very consistently during the year, Mr A. Wood being runner-up. The election of office-bearers for the ensuing year v esulted : —President, Mr J. Ramsay; vice-president, Mr P. J. Greaney; junior vice-president, Mr M. Hea-ley; secretary and treasurer, Mr W. Jack; committee —Messrs W. Watson, A. Buchanan, John Shcddan, Smaill, B. Davidson, and W. H. Almond; delegates to Po" f >> Otago Bowling Association—Messrs J. Ramsay and A. Buchanan (re-elected); handicappcr and selector, Mr J Ramsay; green supervisor, Mr A. B'uclianan (re-elected); controller of games, Mr W. Watson. The appointment of a greenkeepe-r was left in the hands of the committee. Considerable discussion took place over the fixing- of the subscription for the ensuing year. Last year it was raised from 30s to £•2, but a considerable falling-off in the membership iook place,' and some of the members present thought it would be advisable to again reduce the subscription to 30s in order to popularise the club, and in the hope that more members would join. Eventually the subscription was fixed at 30s. It was also decided to allow first-year players to join at 21s, and that honorary members be admitted at a fee of £1 Is.
