RIFLE SHOOTING
WAIRARAPA'. MEETING. CARTERTON, March 1. The- twenty-fifth annual meeting of the Wairarapa Rifle Association was opened at Papawai to-day.. The weather was overcast, and a right wind blowing did not affect the shooting at the first two ranges. One hundred and sixty-six entries were received, and all except four accepted. Sergeant Leslie Loveday, the King's Prize winner, is competing, and also most' of the former incw Zealand champions. A~heavy wind was blowing from the north-west when the marksmen went down for the Wellington Match, and fish-tails were frequent. As a result many challenges invariably ended in the marker signalling "clean target." Forty tyroa are competing. Results:^ — Bid well Match (figure targets); 300 yards; ten shots.—C. J.
