An improvement in coal deliveries is manifesting itself in the long trains going down the line from the Ohai-Njghtcaps fields, evidencing a sprightlier action on th« part of the miners. Several of the mines are short of hewers, notwithstanding the very decent cheques that" can be made. There appears to be plenty of demand for land, in spite of the high prices, in the Taranaki district. Last week an offer of £2OO per acre for a farm of 100 acres was refused, and in another instance a form was sold at £175 per acre, which cost less than £BB per acre 18 months ago.
