A fire broke out at Fcatherstoii at 4 4 a.m. on the 25th ult. in packing cases in an alleyway between H. Clark's bootshop and F. Keen's hairdressing establishment. The fire spread to both buildings. "Clark's stock was saved, though badly damaged by water, and he is a heavy loser. There were light insurances on both buildings.
A man who assisted in the judging of Jersey cattle said that he had been judging cattle for a great many years, and the Jersey class it the Stratford Show was the best that had ever been seen in New Zealand; nothing like it could be seen in Aus-
tralia, and he that a tetter class had never been see.i in the world. This is fuSsome praise (remarfka the Taxana&i News), but it came from a man who spoke in all seriousness, and whose opinion on Jersey cattle is respected by every breeder.
