TANNERS AND. FELLMONOEBS.
M|r W. H. Hagger (Conciliation Commissioner) was engaged on. the sth in a dispute that had arisen between the Tanners and Fellmongers' Union, and the employers. The union was-represented by Messrs J. A. Milburn, A. Lindsay, and P. S. Gray (assessors,, and the employers by Messrs D. E Theomin, Ness, F. Wallis (assessors), and, Mr A. S. Cookson (agent). There had been a previous sitting in the dispute, and a complete agreement was now arrived at with the exception of piecework rates for pullers, and wool-sorters, which will probably be" settled in a few days. The wages arrived at were: —Felimongers —woolsorters, pullers, and pelt classers, Is 7£d per hour; hand scourers, wool-washers, hand scudders, hand fleshers, and woolpressers, Is sgd per hour; all other workers Is 4d per hour. This was agreed to with the addition of a bonus, in each case, ol 2£d per hour. The piecework rate for wool-sorters "was fixed at Is 3d per owt. Tanners. —Curriers, chrome tanners, and machine splitters, Is 7£d per hour; hand fleshers, shaving machine hands, machine hide fleshers, unhairers, and scudders, Is sgd per hour; hide lime'pit, tan yard, and drum hands, Is sgd per hour. All other workers Is 4d per hour, with the addition of a bonus in each case, of 2id per hour. It was agreed that youths might be employed in the proportion of one to three, or a 'fraction of three at the following rates:—Under 16 years. 20s; 16 to 17 years. 255; 17 to 18 years, 30s; 18 to 19 years. lOd per hour; 19 to 20 years, Is per hour; 20 to 21 years, Is 3d per hour. As to hours of work and general conditions these remain substantially the same as in the old award.
The award commences from December 1, and remains in existence for two years; terminating on September 3C. 1921.
