PUBLIC HEALTH RETURNS
The following' are the Public Health returns with' regard to infectious diseases in Otago for November: — • Waitalci Hospital District. —Scarlet fever, 7; diphtheria, 4; tuberculosis, 3; influenza, 1-, pneumonia, 2; hydatids, 1. Otago Hospital District. —Scarlet fever, 35;' diphtheria, 13; tuberculosis, 7; influenza, 4 ; measles, 17; pneumonia, 5; hydatids, 1; septicaemia, 1. Vincent Hospital District. —Scarlet fever, 6; diphtheria, 16; influenza, 2. t Southland. Hospital District. —Scarlet fever, 5; diphtheria, 3; tuberculosis, 3; pneumonia, 2; e'rysipelas, 1; puerperal fever, 1. * _ ;i '-Wallace Hospital District. —Scarlet fever, 3; diphtheria, 1. _ jThe total number of notifications. was 144, showing a decrease of 10 cases as compared with the previous month. There was a decrease of seven oases of scarlet fever, four of diphtheria, 10 of tuberculosis,;! and five of influenza. The number of scarlet fever 1 cases notified was 56, showing a decrease of seven compared with the figures for October. Thirty-five of the cases cama from Otago, seven from Waitaki, and sis from .‘Vincent Hospital Districts. In' thoi city and suburbs the cases were very evenly distributed. The country districts in Otago contributed 14 cases, of which six, cama from Mosgiel. The total number of notifications of diphtheria was 37 —a decrease of four compared with the figures for last! month.. . The districts chiefly affected wera Vincent; V|l6)' and Otago (13). In Vincent HospitalVDistrict there, wore five cases at Cromwell, three each at Luggate and Alexandra, two cayh at Lowbum and Bannockburn, and one at Clyde. One death occurred at Cromwell. In Dunedin and - suburbs 11 cases wore notified, six being in the city itself. There was one case each, at Outram and Stirling. The total notifications of tuberculosis were 13—a decrease of 10 is compared with last month’s figures. Seven; cases were notified from Otago and three each from AVaitaki and Southland Hospital Districts. Seven cases of influenza were notified, showing a decrease of five on the figures for October. Four cases wera notified from Otago, two from Vincent, anc| one from AVaitaki Hospital Districts. The localities were as follows: —Oamaru, one mild case; Dunedin, four mild eases;- and Omakau, two mild cases. Nine cases of pneumonia were notified —an increase of one as compared wi’h last month’s figures. Two cases were notified from Oamaru in Waitakf Hospital District, two from Dunedin, one from Bushey, one from Otakou, and one from East Taieri in Otago Hospital District.Seventeen, oases of measles were notified —• this being an increase of 13 on last month’s figures. Fifteen cases were reported from Dunedin and two from Mosgiel in Otago Hospital District. Two cases of hydatids were reported—one from Otekaike arid one from Dunedin. One case of erysipelas was reported from Southland. One case of sep•ticsemia was .reported from Mosgiel; and one case of puerperal fever was reported from Invercargill.. The returns, in a general way, show a material decrease in diseases over the last threQ months,
