THE TAUPIRI MINE.
INSPECTION BY ENGINEER. NO IMMEDIATE DANGER. AUCKLAND, August 25. An inspection of the Taupiri Company's coal mine was mado on Saturday by the inspecting engineer to the Mines Department. Mr Reed states that he is of opinion that there is practically no danger connected with No. 5 section, above which surfaco cracks have appeared. There is a movement in progress in this section, ho says, but there are some nino chains of solid coal between it and the Waikato River no danger need be apprehended. In regard to No. 6 rise, which is under tho river, there is no immediate danger. Although danger eventually may arise there, i: will bo slow in coming. August 27. Although work was resumed at the Huntly Extended mine to-day after a stoppage pending reports as to the safety of the mine, it is now announced that a "stop work" meeting of men will be held to-morrow. No information has been given as to the reasons for calling the meet- 1 ing.
