PALMERSTON NOTES.

PALMERSTON, August 13. The Masonic ball was held in the Town Hall last Friday night. There was a record attendance, and dancing was kept up till an early hour on Saturday. On Saturday the Waikouaiti and Shag Point Football teams met on the Palmerston ground. The ground wa9 invery bad condition for play, part of it being under water. After a fast and vigorously contested game -Shag Point won by 6 points to nil. Mr T. Piokett acted as referee. On Sunday the anniversary services in the Presbyterian Church, which were largely attended, were conducted by the Rev. Mr Miller. On Monday evening the anniversary social was held in the Town Hall. There was a fair attendance, and a much enjoyed programme was supplied by the following.—Musical monologues. Rev. Mr Blair; songs —Misses Hurndell, Teviotdale, and Dr Thomas; quartets and pieces by the choir, under the conductorship of Mr Bennett. During the evening an interesting and spirited address was delivered by the Rev. Mr Miller. The Rev. Mr Davie acted as chairman.
