FOSTERING TRADE WITH AUSTRALASIA. AUCKLAND, May 31. Mr Albert Goldie, formerly an Australian journalist, arrived by the Niagara, bringing a letter from the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce bearing an invitation to simila* organisations in New Zealand to co-operato in establishing a direct steamship communication between Los Angeles and the ports of Australia and New Zealand, with interchange of products. The Los Angeles Harbour Board has appointed Mr Goldie special commission to investigate the possibilities of securing sufficient cargo to justify a regular service between the ports mentioned.
