OTAGO LAND BOARD
A special meeting of the Otago- Land Board was held on Monday to deal with the extra amount of work which it has recently been called upon to perform. The Commissioner of Crown Lands (Mr R. T. Sadd) occupied the chair, and the other members present were: Messrs T. A. Munro, James Smith, C. J. Inder, and G. Livingstone. Mr John Jolly, a discharged soldier, applied for an occupation lease over an estimated area of 65 acres of unsurveyed land on the mining reserve in block 11, Benger district, between sections 6,8, 11, and 14, and the Clutha River. —Approved. Mrs Ellen M'lntosh, lessee of seotions 5 and 9, block V, Tiger Hill district, applied to purchase the fee simple. The warden stated that there was no objection from a mining point of view to the sale of the land.—Approved. As-the result of a re-hearing the transfer of run 248 f, comprising 3370 acres, from Mr George P. Howell to Mr Ernest Carr was approved. TRANSFERS. The following transfers were approved: Section 15a, Barnego Settlement, 281 a 2r 4p, Mr George Harvey to Mr John Wilkins; section 32, Maerewhenua Settlement, 262 a 2r 33p, Mr William Lundie to Mr Geo. Patterson; run 2050, Rock and Pillar, 1565 acres, Mr Wm. James Connolly to MrWm. Currie, tan.; section 66. block 111, Benger, 4a Or 23p, Mr Chas. Todd as executor of David Walker (deceased), to Mr Alexr. Walker; eection 18, block 11, town of Hawksbury, Mr William Prescott to Mr Wm. Jno. Cockbum; section 26a, Totara Settlement, 93a lr 09p, Mr Adam Nelson to Mr Jas. Buchanan Blair. The under-mentioned transfers were dealt with as follow:—Section 11. block XVI, Shotover, 57a Or 30p, Ellen Downey to Mr James William Miller—Held over for ranger's report. River reservo, block I, Kurow, 2 acres, Mr John Cochrane to Mr Ernest Stansfield Calverley.—Held over. GENERAL. Mr Michael Roughan, holder on occupation lease of the adjoining land, applied for a grazing license over about two acres between hie leasehold and the land occupied on grazing license by Mr Thomas G. Smith, in block VI, Benger district.—Granted at 10s per annum. Expiry of o.r.p. over section 10, block VIII, Catlins, Mr Richard Thompson.— Granted lease in perpetuity at 16s per acre. Mr J. S. Woods applied for permission to cut a few birch rails for building eheep
yards from the Long Bush, at Lake Ohau. —Granted license in Round Bush at usual royalty. Mr James M. Munro applied for permission to out some birch rails on Mr Rayne's run for the purpose of building a buggy shed.—Granted license in Round Bush at usual royalty. The Under-Secretary for Lands submitted for the consideration of the board a suggestion that the local Repatriation Board migjht examine soldier applicants for land In their respective districts and advise the board whether the applicant was likely to be a success as a farmer. The suggestion applied to places where there was no land office, and would savo N soldiers the delay and expense of attending the Land Board for examination.—Left in tho hands of the commissioner.
Mr Chas. Robt. _ Churchill was granted exemption from residence on sections 88 ana 97, block VIII, Leaning Rock, until September 10, 1919. Mr Henry Bain applied for exemption from residence on black 54-0, Benmore, and for permission to reside on his wife's run, No. 564.—Granted.
Tho Maniototo County Council submitted proposals for the expenditure of thirds for the period ended April 30 (amount £425 17s 7d). —Approved. The Bruce County Council submitted proposals for expenditure of thirds, etc., for the period ended April 30 (amount £2 Is lid). —Approved. The Tuapeka County Council submitted proposals for expenditure of thirds for tho period ended -April 30 (amount £IOB 7s 3d). —Approved. Mr Ernest W. M'Keich, a discharged soldier, was granted a lease over an area of 483 a lr, at Waitahuna Settlement No. 2.
