STOP-WORK MEETINGS. WELLINGTON, May 19. A stop-work meeting of waterside workers decided to-day to hold a secret ballot on the question of the acceptance of a new aKi-eemcnt with the employers. CHRISTCHURCH, May 19. The waterside workers at Lyttelton held a stop-work meeting to-day to consider the proposal from the employers regarding the present wages dispute. The matter was fully discussed, and it was decided to conduct a ballot to-morrow and on Wednesday. The men, however, will not cease work for the purpose of voting. The indications from the tone of the meeting were that a settlement would be effected.
