CROMWELL.

May 12.—0 f late very dull, cold weather is being experienced. The mist has been ■hanging low over the hills, and the sun has not shone through now for over four days. Very little rain has fallen of late, but a good downpour of rain would be more welcome than these dull, leaden days. Bowling.—The bowlers finished up their season with a very enjoyable social, held last Tuesday in the Oddfellows' Hall. The hall was filled with the bowlers and their friends. The principal guests of the evening were with _ workers of the local Red Cross, -who quite appreciated the honour done to them. During the evening the prizes won by the bowlers ab tho various competitions throughout the season were presented by the president of tho Cromwell Bowling Club (Mr Gregor M'Dpnald). On .{Saturday the bowlers were again in force on their beloved green, this time, however, not to play, but to lovingly arid carefully robe it in its winter garment. Tho green was top-dressed, and, given a fair chance, Should be in good condition for next season's play. Concert. —On Wednesday members of the* Commercial Travellers' Association are to give a concert in Cromwell, the money raised to go towards the Soldiers' Memorial. Aoart from the worthy object for Which the concert is to be held, a very enjoyable evening should be spent by those who attend it.

Public Health. —Every precaution is being taken to cono with an outbreak of influenza should such occur. In addition to the Women's Nursing Class, which meets onco a week, a Men's Committee has been formed. A meeting of this committee was

held last Tuesday and also Saturday, when various matters of importance were attended to. Improvement.—Tho channelling of tho water tables for the main street of tho town is now being properly attended to. The completion of this will bring about a longfelt improvement, and is one step in the direction of making the streets of Cromwell worthy of such an important town it is steadily becoming.
