WELLINGTON. BUSINESS MAN CHARGED. WELLINGTON, May 12. A well-known business man, HowanJ Nattrass, was charged in the court thii morning with being illegally on the premises of William Strongman. Counsel for the defence objected to som? of the evidence, as a case was pending in which defendant is being sued for £3OOO for the alleged seduction of Strangman a daughter, aged 18 j*. Evidence for the prosecution was to th» effect that the defendant and Audrey. Gaulter and two other men went to Strang* man's house on the night of the 9fch inst. with the intention of getting the girl away ; from her homo. Gaultor denied being a{ the house on the night in question, and derf fendant also denied the charge. The Magistrate (Mr Frazer) said the gestion was something in the nature of abv duotion or similar intention. His Worshuf was convinced that defendant was present He did not think the action of the defendant was done in good faith. The proper course would have been to apply to the Supremf Court for a writ of habeas corpus. No man had a right to go to a houso and beset i? to get a girl away. It was not a case fo» imprisonment. Defeidant was ordered to be bound over to keen the peace for 12 months in a sum of £2OO and one surety of £2OO Defendant was also ordered to pay; the costs of the proceedings.
