CHRISTCHURCH MARKETS". (Peb UiaTEa Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, April 29. There is a little more buoyancy in the oats market, but buyers are still not prepared et present to go beyond 3s 4d to 3s 5d for Gortons at country stations. Oatsbeaf chaff .is also a little firmer, and is now worth. £4 10s to £4 15s at ocuntry stations. '• .
Red clover seed' is now coming forward in fair quantities. The quality is very good, and the seed is clean. It is quoted at lid to la Id at country stations. There'is practically nothing doing in white clover at 9d to lid.
.Linseed! is firmer,' being in good demand from Australia. It is now quoted at £ls to £ls 103 at country stations. Peas, partridge - , and white ivories are quoted'at 4s 6d to ss, and Prussian blues up to 6s, at country stations. GRAIN AND PRODUCE SALES. Messrs Dalgety and .Company report: Oats: Delivery of the new season's grain is still very slow. The broken weather experienced of late has no doubt been one of the chief factors in delaying deliveries. There is a stronger inquiry for good heavy limes of . Gar tons for prompt delivery, while Sparrowbills have also been more in request. Feed lines meet ready sale on arrival. Prime milling, 4s Id tip to 4s 3d; good to best feed, 3s 8d to 4s; medium to good, 3s 3d to 3s 6d per bushel (sacks extra). Wheat: All lines of milling quality coming forward in good condition are readily taken by millers at maximum Government rates. Some of the surplus coming forward, more particularly . those that have been thrashed out of stook are in soft condition, and these lines are not acceptable to millers. Fowl wheat is offering more freely from the north, and meets fair demand. Potatoes: Increased supplies have been coming forward during the past week, largely from the north, and sales can only bo effected at a .reduction on late values. Buyers are displaying a preference for best quality, medium and inferior lines being difficult to quit on arrival. Best tables, £7 5s to £8; medium to goad, £6 to £7 per ton (sacks in). Chaff: The market has been barely supplied during the past week with good bright heavy oaten sheaf, which description is in most demand. ' The bulk of the chaff coming forward of late has been of medium quality, for which tho demand is not strong. Best oaten sheaf, £6 5s to £6 103; medium to good, £5 15s to £6; light and inferior, from £4 10s ■ per ton- (sacks extra) . Messrs -Donalds Reid and Co. report: Oats: The weather has interfered considerably with thrashing operations, and in consequence samples have not been offering freely. Lines of A grade Gaitons for immediate delivery have better inquiry, but for other descriptions the demand is not brisk. In most oases growers are not disposed to accept present prices, consequently a fair proportion of the oats now being thrashed are coming into store. Prime milldng, 4s 2d to 4s 3d; good to best feed, 3a 9d to 4s; inferior to medium, 3s 3d to 3s Bdt per bushel (sacks extra). Wheat: The bulk of the local wheat thrashed to date has been in sound condition, and therefore acceptable to millers. Some of the later lots have been a trifle soft, but as most of the unthrashed wheat is now in stack its condition should be assured. Any lines of fowl wheat coming forward meet with fair demand. Potatoes: The market has been well supplied, chiefly with northern consignments, and prices today are a shade easier. The demand is almost confined to best quality, other descriptions being difficult to j>lace. Best table potatoes, £7 10s to £8; others, £6 to £7 per ton (sacks included). Chaff: Prime oaten sheaf is not arriving freely, and all consignments of this class are readily dealt with. Medium and inferior lines are not in request, and meet rather slow sale. Best oaten sheaf, £6 5s to £6 10s; medium to good, £5 15s to £6; inferior, £5 to £5 10s per ton (bags extra). EXPORTS FROM ARGENTINA.
