CROMWELL.
April 28. —Cromwell ia now experiencing) Borne rather changeable weather. On laat Friday there was a rather severe frost, perhaps the severest of this present season. Balm shower's - fall now and then, but still the district is__ enjoying a amount of sunshine' and blue sky, £ar%iore, evidently, than falls to the" lot of places nearer the coast, from which places we hear of floods and enow and rain. Tho mountains round about Cromwell have at times been covered with snow, but most of it has disappeared again, owing; to the rather warm" winds that have been blowing of late.
Field Sports.—Bowling and tennis axe now practically over, and the- sports of the town are looking eagerly forward to tho opening of the golfing season. Tho annual meeting of tho Golf Club was held last week, when there was a large attendance of members. Dr Shore was appointed president, Messrs Webb and D. C. Jolly vice-presidents, Mr Foote secretary, and Messrs Brodrick, Irvine, Stephens, and Yeoman committee. Tho opening day was fixed for lifay 3. Mr "Webb's kindly offer of a trophy for handicap matches was accepted with thanks. Cromwell is fortunate in having such a splendid site for golf links, which are situated at & very easy distance from the town.
School Committee. —At the householders' meeting for the election of a new School Committee it was decided to endeavour to Sise the local school to the status of a dislot high school. It ia felt that siuch an
instituion is badly needed for such a growing and prosperous district. Indeed, rumour hath it that one peaceful ratepayer was forcibly seized, sworn in, and finally sent, forth as a blushing councillor.
