BANNOCKBURN.
April 26. —The heaviest' frost of the season was registered on Friday night. During the week some very heavy rain fell, and the ranges received a liberal coat'ing of snow. Cricket'.—On Friday afternoon, the 18th inst., a cricket team from the employees on the Public WorKs, Cromwell, again journeyed to - Bannockburn, when a friendly match was j played on the local pitch. The result was another win for the Public Works team. The ladies proviided afternoon tea, and an enjoyable aft>ernoon •- was spent. School Election.—At the annual meeting of householders for the election of a School Committee, eight householders were presents Those elected were Messrs J. D. Parsons (chairman), Wm, R. Parcell (secretary), A. E. Toms, TEL C. Parcell, and Jas. Menzies. Meeting.—A meeting of the ladies on Wednesday, 23rd "inst., held to form nvirsiing classes, was well attended. Dr Shore, who occupied the chair, briefly outlined the object of the nursing classes and the precautions necessary in the event of a recurrence of the influenza epidemic. Arrangements were made to hold weekly classes in the Bannockburn Hall, commencing on Wednesday, 30th, under the direction of Nurse Lynn. Mrs Jas. Campbell was appointed oonvener of the Nursing Committee, and Mrs Sutherland convener of the Domestic Committee.
Personal.—Sergeant Andrew Smith, who returned with the draft on the 23rd inst., was given a public welcome on his return to his native home. A number of people assembled in the Bannockburn Hall to meet him on his arrival, when Mr J. Ritchie (chairman of the Patriotic Committee; addressed the gathering.
Christening.—On Easter Sunday in the Presbyterian Church the infant eon of Mr Jas. Lynn (M.S.M.) and Mrs Lynn was baptised. The Rev. Rankin performed the ceremony. The church was prettily decorated with white flowers by the members of the choir.
Anzac Day.—The day was observed very fuietly locally, business going on as usual. n the afternoon the school children were addressed by their respective teachers, and, after singing,the Anzac hymn and o.ne or two patriotic songs, they were dismised a little earlier than usual.
