Mr Ball, Minister of Public Works, New South Wales, stated a few days ago that he had had tinder notice an application by an employee of his department for a small increase in his wage. In favourably reviewing tho application the supervising engineer had intimated that the. man concerned was the father of 23 children, and nine of his sons had gone to the war. Mr Ball_ added that these facts had appealed to him, and he had no hesitation in granting the increase recommended.
