THE PARLIAMENTARY SESSION. VIEWS OF THE HON. MR MYERS. WELLINGTON, April 17. Referring- to the much-vexed question! whether there will be a session of Parliament before the general election takaa place the Hon. Mr Myers states that, irrespective of general political questions, it is absolutely necessary to pass taxing legislation, as no land tax can be collected until the Tax Bill has been passed. The land tax is usually made payable early in November, and the Tax Bill should be passed not later than the latter part of October to enable an Ordcr-in-Council to be prepared and issued before the date of payment. There is also every probability of legislation being passed on the lines of "The Expiring Laws Continuance Act, 1918," which extends the operations of certain enactments to August 31, 1919. The Minister added that this aspect aIon« should remove any doubts that may exitti regarding the holding of a session.
