FREEZING WORKERS.
A SETTLEMENT REACHED. WELLINGTON, April 7. ■ The conference between representatives of the Freezing Workers, Federation of New Zealand and the freezing companies resulted in a settlement. .The chairman of the conference issued a statement that the agreement would be for two years from August 31 next. After considering the cost of living, the recent decisions of the Arbitration Court at Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin, the nature of the freezing workers' business and its want of continuity of service, the minimum wage was fixed at Is 9d. The rates for slaughtermen were settled at 35s per 100 for sheep, 32a for lamb and cow beef, and 2s 3d per head on minor lines. A flat rate for freezing workers was reached generally by an increase to the existing schedule rates of 10 per cent. Although the new agreement would not come into operation before next season, the new rates would be paid from April 7.
