UNIVERSITY SPORTS.

The Otago University fourteenth annual inter-faculty sports meeting was held on the Carisbrook Ground on Saturday, when there was a good attendance of spectators and competitors. The University Amateur Athletic Club was formed in 1902, but the annual sports gatherings were interrupted by the war, the last meeting being held in September, 1915. The object of Saturday's gathering was. to compete for the Inter-faculty Shield, won in 1915 by the Medical Faculty, and to select a team to represent the Otago University at the annual inter-collegiate tournament to be held in Dunedin during Easter "Week. The weather was beautifully fine, and the grounds in good condition, although a little soft in some parts. As was generally expected, the Medical Faculty gained the most points for the championship, and retained the shield, which it has retained since 1912, when it wrested it from the Faculty of Arts. The points gained by the competing faculties were: Medical, 68 (the winners); Denial, 22; Law, la; Arts, 7; Mines, 4; Commerce, 0. Some good individual performers were in evidence, notably Sumpter, who proved himself a fast sprinter, winning all three sprint championship events and! thus gaining "Law" the 15 points earned in the championship. His times throughout were good, and the 440 Yards Championship was covered by this runner in 54 l-ssec. This is a record for the University, the previous holder being T. A. Milroy, in 1906, with 55sec. Sumpter also won the Burnett Challenge Cup, which is held by Bhuidell. Waddell was second with 11 points, and Forbes third with 10 points.
