DR BEGG APPOINTED DIRECTORGENERAL. WELLINGTON, January 13. Colonel C. M. Begg succeeds Surgeongeneral Henderson as Director-general of Medical Services. Colonel Begg .has been on active service since 1914. He returns to New Zealand as soon as possible. Colonel 0. M. Begg, M.D., F.R.C.S., F.R.0.P., left New Zealand with the Main Body in command of the Field Ambulance, and went through the Gallipoli campaign. When Colonel Maunder (of tho Imperial army), who was A.D.M.S. of the New Zealand Division, was killed Colonel Begg was promoted to take his place. For distinguished service in Gallipoli he received the C.M.G., and the Royal College 0 f Physicians of Edinburgh bestowed a Fellowship on him in recognition of his work in that campaign. Ho went to Franc© with the New Zealanders, and has been there ever since. After the Somme battle ho wag again promoted to D.D.M.S. of the Second Anzao Army Corps. When the Australian and New Zealand forces wore separated Colonel Begg was appointed D.D.M.S. of the 22nd British Corps (to which the New Zealand Division was attached), being the only civilian to become D.D.M.S of a British Army Corps. In July last, at the second battle of the Marne, he was senior medical officer with the British forces engaged there, and of two French Divisions as well. He has been several times mentioned in despatches, and a year ago received the C.B- Colonel Beg? is a son of the late Mr A. C Begg, of this city.
