WELLINGTON NOTES.

LFroai Our Own Correspondent.) January 3. With the Wairarapa meeting cut out on New Year's Day Wellington sports had to go to Marlon. A good many did two days i at Manawatu and the last two days at ■ Auckland. They were back in tho city the . following afternoon —as soon as those who j went to Marton. i In withdrawing Nobleman from the Marton Cup Mr Phillips acted on the advice of Mr D. H. Roberts. Nobleman has raced only three times this season! his record being two firsts and one second. His next appearance will be in the Wellington Cup. In recent years -Manawatu Cup winners have done well at Trentham : Sir Solo and Kiirain won both events. j The , Trentham contingent failed at Ellcrslie, although Bo Peep and Philomela j earned 270sovs in stake money. Colorado's successful run was brolcen at I Marton, where he ran two seconds in flat j events. He is a decidedly useful sort of ' gelding who will win a good hurdle race j later on. Ho has a thorough jumper's I pedigree, and is related to Awahou, Ahua, I and other performers. Palm Oil, winner of the juvenile race each j day at Hastings, is by Maniopoto—- | Largesse. She is a full sister to Ngapoto, a useful performer up the coast a few i seasons back. Dingle and Volo, both sired by Husband- ' man, won throe races between them at : Stratford. Dingle won at Feilding, and '> Volo at Woodville. The latter must have been unlucky at Taranaki, where Movement beat him. I Neither Client nor Fiery Cross is engaged" in, the Wellington Cup. The Fordell stable relied on Rude in the Marton Cup; : but he was beaten after a good finish with j Multieipal, handled by H. Young. That horseman has won four races since he j returned from Melbourne, and in each he has beaten a representative of the Fordell stable. Cello (Achilles —Singer) was the only one of the half dozen horses from Tilley's . stable that ran at Marton to score. For tho ■ raco Cello' won Hupana was sent out a hot ; favourite; but she gave a very poor exhibition. H. Young has ridden the Advance ; mare in the three races she has won ; but he was on the ground at Marton. where W. Young had the mount. Multicipal scored his first win this season in the Cup, which was worth 400sovs to the winner. Last season, when ridden by H. Young, he won the Feilding Cup. Waimatoa (Bezonian---PunaWai) scored his first win this season in the Railway Handicap, Moutoa Queen "being burdened with a 101 b penalty for the Manawatu win. Signorella (Signor—Crueiriella) scored her first win in the New Year Hack Handicap, in which the imported horse Bay Berry (Bayardo—Retort) | made his first appearance.
