SUPPLIES OF WHEAT.

PROMISING INDICATIONS. CHRISTCHURCH, April 22. The Hon. Mr MacDonald stated last night that he had no definite information yet as to the total acreage that was to be sown in wheat, but judging from, the applicatons received for seed wheat the indications were very promising that the acreage required—about 250,000 acres—would be sown. He hoped to have a census taken at the end of June to ascertain the extent of the autumn sowing, and in the event of the acreage not being sufficient he would make a strong appeal for spring sowing In some districts the farmers had promised to increase their areas under wheat by 20 per cent. He thought the farmers .-caused the position, and intended to assist the Government by putting in as much wheat as possible.
