KAITANGATA NOTES.

KAITANGATA, April 4. A public mooting of the Kaitangata Patriotic Society was hold in the Church Hall on Monday evening, before a poor attendance, Mr 11. Aitchi.--.on (Mayor) presiding. The report disclosed that about 200 men had enlisted from the district, and that the duties devolving on the committee were now greater, and more attention would be required in tho near future, when the Second Division would be called up. The Patriotic Fund showed a credit of £162 at the beginning of tho year, £290 paid out, leaving a balaneo of £339. All tho funds were in credit to tho extent of £668 2s 3d—a satisfactory state of affairs. Mr T. Cairns, Mr J. Donaldson, and tho Rev. M'Dowoll made a few remarks On Monday evening tho of an eiderdown quilt was made by the Wesleyan Church congregation to the Rev. J. Burnard on his retirement from the church. Mr Stephenson, sen., in making the presentation, referred to the good work done by tho recipient and his family, who would bo greatly missed. Mr Burnard replied at some length, explaining that when he was 62 he started to preach, and for 33 years previously he was a schoolmaster. He trusted that his successor would receive tho support of the congregation. Several items wero rendered by Messrs Stephenson, sen., Edwards, Limm, Burnard, Miss Rowley, Misses Martin, Sim, and Rowley, and r.nthems by the choir. Refreshments were supplied by the lady members of tho congregation.
