MILITARY OFFICER IN TROUBLE.

FAILURE TO PRODUCE RECEIPT. AUCKLAND, January 4. _ Li the Police Court to-day Robert Candlisli Hacking, formerly adjutant to the Third Auckland Regiment, was charged that ho failed to produce an Audit Oflicc receipt for a sum of £25, drawn on maintenance account. The defendant admitted the offence. Cheques wero cashed at the hotel where he slaved. Ho stated that the money was used on the regiment's behalf. He had been kept very busy with regimental affairs, and could not say what had become of the receipts. Ho had arranged to refund the money this month. Tho Magistrate: "The charge is laid under tho Publio Revenue Act, and tho amount of fine is fixed by Statute." A fine of £IOO was imposed.
