CHRISTCHURCH, December 20. There was a good deal of discussion at the meeting of the North Canterbury Hospital and Charitable Aid Board to-day when Miss Robinson, matron of the Kai koura Hospital, asked for leave in order thai she might take tip military duties. Severa. members questioned the wisdom of depleting the hospital staffs, but ultimately it was decided to give formal to Misa Robinson taking up military duties. Tho Hospital Committee reportJa" that it regretted to have to state that in addition to the matron of the Kaikoura Hospital Sisters Bennett and M'Kay, of the hospital staff, had been called up to accompany the Maheno. The attention of the department has been called to the fact that the continued withdrawal of their senior officers might seriously impair the efficiency of tho hospitals, and if the institutions wero to be maintained in a condition of efficiency, this aspect should bo considered before nurses or others wero called up for military service. Fivo applications were received for the position of medical superintendent at the Christchurch Hospital, from which Dr F. R. Scott recently resigned. The board decided to ask Dr C. Dillworth Fox, a former superintendent, to take the position if he is relieved from the military duties he has undertaken.
