SLIP ON MAIN TRUNK LINE.
AUCKLAND. December 21. Owing to slips on the Main Trunk lin« the express to Palmerston North leaving at 7 p.m., was cancelled, and both tht evening south-bound Main Trunk trains were also cancelled. About 4000 tons of earth are displaced. The slip fell just in front of the express from Rotorua to Auckland, and the train ploughed its way into the slip with great force" the engine being forced 15ft in the air, where it remained. Three carriages were derailed and the passengers were shaken, but none was injured. Subset quently the train was removed from th« danger zone. The passengers had an unenviable experience in reaching a relief train which was sent from Auckland. The service is disorganised, AUCKLAND, December 25. As a result of the construction of a loop lino the g-ap in the Main Trunk line has been closed, and there is now no necessity for passengers to transfer from one train to another. The woi-k of clearing the Karaka outtinff, where tbo slip occurred, will probably occupy some weeks, but the time-table will bo adhered to by means of the loop lino.
