DRIVERS' AWARD
DISSATISFACTION IX AUCKLAND. AUCKLAND, November 10. Expressions 01 sympathy and support respecting the Drivers' Award continue to be received by Che Drivers' Union trom other trades organisations. Two more resolutions were forwarded to-day from the Auckland Tailors' Union and Auckland limber Workers' Union respectively it is understood that the action of the Auckland Abattoirs and Freezing Works employees in _ withdrawing their case from tlie Conciliation Council on Thursday was taken a« a protest against the Arbitration Court a finding in the Drivers' Award. Inquiries go to .-how that, though there is no dissatisfaction with me work done by the Conciliation Council, it is probable that other cases may be withdrawn to (strengthen, the protest. The resolution passed by the Tailors' Union was as follows: —"That this union expresses its astonishment at the award given by the Court of Arbitration in tlio Auckland drivers' dispute. \Ye consider that the conditions laid down by the court are unjust, and not in keeping with the conditions' laid clown by the court in other trades. We therefore urge the Government to set up a board of inquiry to ascertain why special treatment should be handed out to this body of workers. Further, we pledge ourselves to support the drivers in their endeavours to ventilate their grievance, and call upon all other unions to do likewise." The resolution of the Timber Workers' Union stares:—"That this union tenders sincere sympathy to the Auckland Motor Car and Ilorse Drivers' Union on its failure to receive justice at the hands of the Arbitration Court, after waiting patiently and putting forward such a strenuous fight. We feci that {ho award just delivered reflects no credit on the court, and that it will remain a disgrace to "organised Labour if it is inactive and fails to stand by the carters in their time of need. Further, we pledge ourselves to support the drivers of this dominion in whatever efforts they deem necessary to better their pay and conditions. 'United wo stand, divided we fall' can safely be applied to this particular case. We therefore call upon organised Labour throughout New Zealand to stand by the drivers to help to remedy their long-stand-ing grievances." November 13. A largely-attended meeting of drivers on Sunday discussed a telegram from the Hon. W H. Merries statins that a conference would be bold in Wellington of employers and employees affected by the award. It v.-as decided to take no further action in the meantime. v
