ST. BATHANS.

October .10.—The weather has for some time past been very dry, with strong winds prevailing. Needless to say, rain would he much appreciated ; the gardens are looking very dry. Tloll of Honour.—Private Car! Wilkinson, of fit. Bathans, another of our heroes, who left with the Thirteenth Reinforcements from Xew Zealand, is at present an inmate of an English hospital, with a gunshot wound in his arms. We trust that he may soon be well again. Obituary.—Another of our old and respected residents rxissed away suddenly on October 10, in fcbo person of .Mrs O'Dowd wife of Thos. O'Dowd. Born in tfil2, she c m.'o to Australia with her mother and brother when only 16 years oi age, and arrived in S 4. Sho vva.i of i retirim; and kindly 'nature, and always had a cheery word for everybody. Mrs O'Dowd leaves a husband and two isons, two daughters, ono brother ' V P. Hannihan), and

four grand-children to mourn their loss. The utmost sympathy of all is extended to them in their sudden and sad bereavement. Lund.—The surveying- party are busy surveying the Hawkdun Run into blocks. It will not bo long until it will be balloted for. The shearing at the Hawkdun will be starting at the end of November, or early in December. I
