MOSSBURN.

July 19. —We are experiencing really remarkable weather for this season of the year, with very little wind or rain, but slight frosts. ..Farming operations are well advanced, feed is plentiful, especially turnips, which crop is now being fed off, and stock arc doing well. The rabbit-trappers arc doing groat work. Patriotic. —The collection for the Naval Dependents’ Relief Fund amounted to nearly £llO for this district. The ladies .of the Red Cross still continue to do good work, and to let the district know what they have done for' the past six months they invited the residents to spend a social evening in the hall last Friday night, 14th inst. _ The evening was devoted to a progressive euchre party and dance, with a splendid supper, supplied by the ladies. They had a small stall in the corner of the hall, where one could purchase any articles, and cushions, cakes, sweets, preserves, etc., were sold, and a three-tier cake, etc., were disposed of. The proceeds amounted to £ls 18s. Mrs Chewings gave a brief outline of what work had been accomplished, as, she said, it was just to show that they did not moot once a month to drink tea and gossip. Meetings have been held at Hamilton Burn and Mossburn once a month, and during the six months they had made and sent 13,031 articles, including 42 pairs of socks and 20 pairs for the Patriotic Society before they formed the Red Cross, as the Patriotic Society had supplied the wool. The music for the dance was supplied by 'Messrs Patterson, Dawson, Dore, and Boer (2). Band of Hope.—The Child ren’s Band of Hope still hold their meetings once a fortnight, w'hen the Rev. Fisher comes from Lumsden. Last Saturday evening Mr and Mrs H. Srrnth, of the Burn, sang a duet, and helped the children with the singing.
