GORGE ROAD (Southland).
July 20. —A smoko concert was hold in the Gorge Road Coronation Hall on Wednesday evening for the purpose of mooting and bidding farewell to Rifleman A. Blornfield, who is home on final leave, and to Mr Arthur O’Briciij who is to leave with the Nineteenth Reinforcements for Trentham. .Mr T. P. Beck was chairman, and a very pleasant evening was spent. Songs wore sung by Messrs Thos. Major, O. E. Njedorer, D. M‘Ara, A. Blomfielcl, sen., A. Blomficld, jun., and IT. Lawrence, and’addresses were delivered by Messrs A. Rankin, J. D. Shepherd, Blomficld, Clode, Major’ and Nicdorer. During the evening the chairman, on behalf of the residents of the district, presented Mr A. Blomficld with a case of pipes, and Mr O’Brien with a shaving outfit. In making the presentation the chairman referred to the need of men, and congratulated those young men on their volunteering, and wished them a pleasant time and safe return to their home and country, at the same time promising them, on behalf of the residents, a right hearty welcome on their return. Messrs Blomficld and O’Brien suitably responded. and thanked the residents for their present and good wishes. Messrs Major, Nicdorer, Rankin. and Shepherd also spoke of the worth of these two young men, and wished them a safe return. The meeting was brought to a close by the singing of “ Auld lang fiyno. ,> Farm.- —Grass is plentiful in this district owing to the mild weather, and stock are looking and doing well.
Factory Extension. —At a general meeting of shareholders of the Gorcro Road Cooperative Dairy Factory, held on .Saturday
evening-, it was resolved to install a separator, and also to erect a new curing room at the factory, so as to profitably cope with tho increase of milk.—The local mills are working away steadily.
