ALEXANDRA NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) ALEXANDRA, May 30. We have had a splendid rainfall, which will give the fields and orchards a thorough saturation. It continued ail Saturday night and well into Sunday, and fell steadily and persistently all the time. Seme of the Bald Hill Elat trees planted last season have grown 4ft 6in for the year, despite the rather unfavourable weather. The average is 3ft, and the loss of trees is decidedly small. The Fruitlands Company is so satisfied with the year’s result that it intends to add largely to the area this coining season. A pleasant little function took place last Thursday in the Bowling Pavilion, when Mrs Fleming (mother of our town clerk), who is breaking up her homo to allow her son to enlist, was entertained by the ladies and presented with a token of their esteem.
