The stock market continues lifeless, the shortage of feed having a restraining influence on business. A modest lino of mixed two, four, six, and eight-tooth owes (with lambs) found a buyer at 13s 6d (all counted), and a. line of sound-mouthed ewes (with lambs) changed hands at 11a 7J,d (all counted). Ewe hoggets are in favour, and a fair-sized lino was placed at 17s. _ lat wethers have been sold in modest lines at 30s and 31s, and fat owes at 19s 6d. The only business reported in cattle is the sale of a lino of prime quality medium-wcigtit fat bullocks at £1,6 10s SOUTHLAND STOCK MARKET (From Dub Own Correspondent.) INVERCARGILL, Oct- her 2. Business continues fairlv good in all classes of stock, although the quantity passing is not as great as has been going thron gh on the average for the last six months. It is usually a quiet time at this period in between the feeds. The nice warm weather prevailing is giving an impetus to the growth of grass, and a week or fortnight should see a real good supply of feed which will naturally mean a stronger demand. In fact, the inquiry during the last few days has been stronger than that experienced for about a fortnight. There is a good demand for hoggets and decent wethers in the sheep section, and well-grown forward bullocks in the cattle section arc anxiously sought after. Tv to is no business doing in ewes, but immediately lambing is over there is sure to bo a number of graziers turning their -attention to this class. The fine weather is provingadvantageous fco lambing, and the province should show a really good percentage when tallies are made up. Butchers are operating solely in the yards, and this, together with freezing operators buying, has been the means of making the Wallacetown sales a first-class market for a long time past.
