Tbe Premiers’ Conference concluded without reaching a definite understandingregarding the steps to be taken regarding the financial problems with which the. States are faced. Before separating a committee was appointed, which will continue negotiations with both Mr Fisher and London. In the meantime London is being sounded as to the prospect of floating loans there. One of the difficulties in the way of settlement is that Mr Fisher insists upon the policy of a common borrower —that is, that all loans shall be raised through the commonwealth, whereas it is undei-stood some of the State Premiers favour having a free hand, though they affirmed the principle that they must act in unity. Mr Holman hinted at the possibility of money being raised both in London and locally. The committee anticipates that finality will bo reached at an early date.
